Lama Del Tenente

2019 Salento Zinfandel, Montepulciano

The Castel Di Salve Lama Del Tenente is a delightful blend from the sun-kissed region of Salento, showcasing a vibrant red hue that captures the eye. This 2019 vintage elegantly combines Zinfandel and Montepulciano, resulting in a wine that is full-bodied, with a medium-high acidity that brings brightness and liveliness to each sip. The fruit intensity is prominent, revealing luscious notes of ripe blackberries and cherries, while subtle hints of spice add depth and complexity. Tannins are well-structured, providing a firm backbone without overwhelming the palate, making this wine a true pleasure to enjoy. With a dry profile, it is versatile enough to pair beautifully with various dishes, from grilled meats to hearty pasta, making it a fantastic choice for any occasion.

Region:

Puglia
Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
